Serena created the looks for supermodels-Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista and Hollywood’s elite, including Salma Hayek , Isabella Rossellini, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, , Penelope Cruz, Drew Barrymore, Keira Knightley and the ever beautiful Sophia Loren.
Magazines worldwide counted on Serena to create looks that would capture global attention. Vogue (Italy, US, France, Germany, Spain) as well as international editions of Harpers Bazaar, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, GQ, Glamour, Vanity Fair and others. Besides working for the most prestigious magazines, Serena was also called upon to design hair for the avant garde publications such as Blackbook, LOVE, Flaunt and Zoo Magazine.
Serena used her unprecedented experience and vivid imagination to create hair looks that were noticed the world over. She designed hairstyles using wigs in unique ways and also designed avant garde hair pieces using natural and manmade materials. This lead to long term collaborations with music legends Tina Turner, Madonna, Shakira, Gloria Estefan and Christina Aguilera. For Aguilera’s “Come on Over” Video, she was nominated for “Best Hair in a Music Video” (MVPA Awards). Serena also styles the new generation of artists such as Lana del Rey and Selena Gomez.
Her longest collaboration has been with Cher-who is known for the most show stopping hairstyles in history. Her hair looks for Cher continue to rock the Red Carpet, as well as her videos, films and tours. Serena received an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Hairstyling” for Cher’s Farewell Tour.
The media and beauty industry has repeatedly acknowledged Serena’s hair work. In Style named Serena “Biggest Risk Taker”, Women’s Wear Daily put her on the “IT” list and Allure attributed her as a “Head Turner”. Serena received two Emmy nominations. She was also nominated for “Hairstylist of the Year” by the prestigious Lucie Awards.
In the early 2000’s Serena began pioneering groundbreaking hair styling techniques in hair commercial and print campaigns. While this arena is not as creative as her work in fashion, beauty and music, it is the most demanding hair work. It requires the highest level of technical knowledge on hair prep, movement, texture and shine. Serena produced results that were never seen before and for this reason she is recognized GLOBALLY as the leader in this field and also the best. Her work is behind leading multinational brands such as L’Oreal, Pantene, Clairol, Wella, Schwarzkopf and Garnier. She has worked on 200 campaigns in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
When Italian Vogue recognized Serena as a global influence in hair trends in 1997, she was just beginning the trajectory she is on. She is more in demand than ever. As one of the most accomplished hairstylists of our generation, Serena has permanently transformed our notions of hair.
